Cosmic Gate

Cosmic Gate is a German trance and progressive trance project from Krefeld, Germany. The group begins in 1998 and consists of Stefan Bossems and Claus Terhoeven, who is also known as Nic Chagall; Bossems is also known as DJ Bossi. Their sound sits within EDM, electronic music and trance, with a movement over time from a harder-edged trance style towards a more subtle but still driving and energetic approach.

Releases and style

The project’s first single is The Drums, followed by Exploration of Space, Mental Atmosphere and a remix of Somewhere over the Rainbow that uses samples from The Wizard of Oz. The single Fire Wire becomes the release that brings the group wider recognition in the UK. Later, their third studio album Earth Mover marks a shift towards progressive trance.

Remixes and live work

Cosmic Gate also produces remixes for major DJs including Tiësto, Armin van Buuren and Ferry Corsten. The group has played more than 1,000 gigs, usually performing between 100 and 130 nights a year, and has appeared at venues including Ministry of Sound, The Guvernment and Privilege Ibiza. They have also performed alongside Armin Van Buuren, Ferry Corsten, W&W and Hardwell.

The act remains active and is centred on Stefan Bossems and Claus Terhoeven.
