Boat to Row
Boat to Row are a Birmingham folk and country group. They begin as a solo project in 2009 and later become a quintet. Their songs are built around detailed, story-led writing and an arrangement style that uses strings, vocal harmonies and a growing range of instruments.
Background
The group develop a live reputation from their early years, with a sound that balances energy and careful construction. Their material moves between lighter and darker themes, and their performances are described as tightly woven sets rather than straightforward stripped-back folk.
Releases and label work
Boat to Row release the Crossroads, Grassmarket and Loyal Light EPs, which lead towards a larger future release. They also issue the single Tightrope on their own label, Nocturne Records, as a 7-inch vinyl and digital download.
Live activity
The group support Slow Club, Willy Mason and Johnny Flynn. They also tour with Dog Is Dead, Gemma Hayes and Hot Feet, and play dates with Jim Lockey And The Solemn Sun and Devon Sproule. Festival appearances include Truck, Y Not, 2000 Trees and Moseley Folk Festival.
