Best of British awards

best of british dj awards

On Wednesday 15 December 2010, the cream of the British dance industry were at Avalon night club in Shoreditch for DJMag’s Best of British awards.
Avalon was the perfect setting with its cool and unique lay out and interior design, bringing a contrast with room 1 with its chic, slick and swanky feel that would lead you to believe you could be in any of the trendiest clubs in west London, to room 2 that, although not the largest, had a very intimate underground vibe to it.
DJMag didn’t hold back bringing in Fabio to start the night going, with some soulful drum & bass getting people in the mood for a great night and later on Grooverider with a old school hip hop set which had the people in both rooms moving with enthusiasm for sum of the classic beats being dropped!

The legendary Ray Keith hosted the awards with one of the highlights being “Global Gathering” scooping the best festival award. Global Gathering will be in its tenth year next summer and is run by the Angel music group who are also the same people behind Godskitchen. With the best DJ’s from around the world turning up to drive the thousands of revellers crazy each and every summer, the festival has now taken the award four years on the trot and continues to be a must for anyone who is a lover of electronic dance music.
The best nightclub award went to “Forward” (London) with Paul Woolford grabbing the best DJ gong and best large club went to “Digital” (Newcastle) which fought off stiff competition from both “Fabric” (London) and “Ministry of Sound” (London). Pete Tong snatched best radio show for his slot on Friday nights BBC Radio 1.
But the night belonged to Annie Nightingale as she stole the show with the outstanding contribution award for pioneering and continuing to push and bring electronic dance music to the forefront of the British music establishment. Known to many of her fans as “Annie” she was the first female DJ to host a show on Radio 1 and is also the first female DJ to be inducted in to the Radio Academy hall of fame. Annie Nightingale is an absolute legend and completely deserved her award and got the biggest cheer of the night when she went up to collect it.
After the ceremony DJMag had one last little treat for us, with a set from the winner of best DJ award, Paul Woolford, who has just completed his fourth season of residency at Ibiza's famous Space nightclub on their prestigious night “We love Space on Sunday”. He played out an intimate set to end what had been another great event given to us by DJMag.
