The Funk & Soul Weekender announces full lineup

Festival Crowd Header

Soundcrash are excited to finally announce the full lineup to the amazing Funk & Soul Weekender. After a sellout first year, they are back this May with an unmissable programme of funk and soul artists past and present.

This years headliner are none other than GEORGE CLINTON & PARLIAMENT FUNKADELIC. Simply one of the greatest and most important artists to have lived. George Clinton one of the inventors of funk music is one of the last of the A-list in a category of greats that includes James Brown, Bob Marley, Prince, Otis Reading, Miles Davis and Fela Kuti! And guess what – he still has one of the most electric live shows out there! Playing with the 16 piece Parliament Funkadelic, one of the tightest bands in history.

Joining them will be two-time Grammy award winning and five-time brit award nominated group Soul II Soul! Caron Wheeler and Jazzie B will be bringing their full live band to throw down such classics as Back to Life and Keep on Movin’ for the funk and soul crowd.

DJ, Broadcaster, producer and owner of Brownswood Recordings... Gilles Peterson hosts two million global listeners to his weekly Saturday afternoon radio show. Bringing you an eclectic mix of soul, jazz, house and hip hop, he will be joined by the original UK disco legend, Greg Wilson. Good times ambassador Norman Jay rejoins us along with the undeniable Mr Scruff both of whom made last year such a special debut!

Coming straight out of New Orleans will be none other than Tru thoughts' own Hot 8 Brass Band, bringing the original big brass sound to Pontins this year. What you hear is not a test, the mighty Sugar Hill Gang will be in town! No doubt their performance of ‘Rapper’s Delight’ will be a massive highlight of this year’s festival.

The headliner from Soundcrash’s hugely successful Albert Hall Show last year will be in attendance. Submotion Orchestra will be providing their very special dub influenced, electronic soul sound to this year's weekender.

It doesn’t get more soulful than UK legend Omar, who alongside the undisputed Akua Naru bring their signature sound to the programme. Old meets new as we welcome a frontrunners in the modern era; Jordan Rakei will supply you with one of the freshest vocal talents in the genre today.
