About HowTheLightGetsIn London
Kenwood House puts the festival inside the immediate grounds of the Hampstead Heath estate. HowTheLightGetsIn London 2027 runs there from 28-31 May as a cultural festival built around philosophy, music and comedy.
The festival dates back to 2010. Its London weekend draws around 5,000 guests, with debates and talks at the core rather than as side programming. The address is Kenwood House, Hampstead Lane, Highgate, London, NW3 7JR.
Lineup and Programme
The programme puts debates and talks at the centre, with live music alongside comedy after dark. In 2026, the London edition ran 300 events across 12 stages.
The Arena, The Hat and The Stage are named stages. The wider programme also includes children’s workshops, Inner Circle events and long-table banquets.
Who Is It For?
The crowd runs mostly from early twenties through older adults, with the daytime audience skewing older and a younger shift after 7pm. It is an adult-leaning cultural festival rather than a straight music weekender.
Families are still part of the site. Children under twelve can attend free, and younger audiences get the children’s Mindcraft tent, sand pit and workshops, plus IAI School content for pre-university teens.
The Venue and Site
The festival site sits in the immediate grounds of Kenwood House on Hampstead Heath, with pedestrian access via East Lodge. Wristband collection is at the Arrivals Tent / Box Office.
Facilities include printed programmes, site maps and artist/speaker information. There is free site-wide Wi-Fi, food and drink on site, disabled toilets, free water and an on-site car park with dedicated disabled spaces. There is no camping, and overnight stays are not allowed on site.
