Walter Schreifels
Walter Schreifels is a rock musician and producer from New York, United States. He is active across hardcore, post-hardcore, indie rock and related styles, and he also works as a solo acoustic singer-songwriter.
Career
In the late 1980s, Schreifels plays in several New York hardcore bands. He is best known from Youth of Today and Gorilla Biscuits, where he also serves as a songwriter. After Gorilla Biscuits breaks up, he forms Moondog, a short-lived project that later develops into the more metal-oriented post-hardcore band Quicksand.
He later works with former Gorilla Biscuits bandmates in CIV, a pop-punk group. He also helps create Rival Schools, a melodic indie rock band. Another project, Walking Concert, is influenced by British artists such as Elvis Costello, The Kinks and The Smiths. He is also associated with Vanishing Life, Dead Heavens and Project X.
Solo work and production
Schreifels also records as a solo acoustic artist, and he has a solo acoustic LP in development. As a producer, he works with hardcore-related acts including Hot Water Music and The First Step. He also produces the EP Dear Strutter by the UK band Cars As Weapons.
Other work
He is part owner of the record label Some Records.
