Venus is a Belgian rock band formed in Brussels in 1997.
The group brings together five musicians with backgrounds in classical music, pop and drama, and it develops its live work around large-scale stage performances. Its first full-length album, Welcome To The Modern Dancehall, appears in 1999.
In 2006, Venus releases The Red Room, followed by the single Love & Loss, and tours the album in France, Belgium and other parts of Europe. A 10th-anniversary concert is planned for the Ancienne Belgique in Brussels in March 2007, but it becomes a farewell show after vocalist Marc A. Huyghens announces that he is leaving the group. The final concert includes guest appearances by members of Girls in Hawaii and Ghinzu, as well as former double bass player Walter Janssens. For the occasion, Venus also issues a final EP of cover versions of songs by Daniel Lanois, Björk and Jacques Brel.
Line-up and activity
Marc A. Huyghens is the vocalist associated with the band at this stage. The group is active from its formation in 1997 through to its final concert in 2007.
