Various Cruelties
Various Cruelties is a London group formed in 2010. The project begins as a solo vehicle for Liam O’Donnell, who provides vocals and guitar, before it expands into a full band with the addition of Beanie Bhebhe on vocals, bass and beats, Adam Coney on guitar and vocals, and Dean Valentine on drums. The act is associated with indie rock, motown and soul, and its sound is described in the input as alt soul pop.
Releases and early activity
The group issues its first singles as limited-edition, hand-stamped vinyl in early 2011. It follows with a self-titled debut album, Various Cruelties, which is released in the UK in 2012 and in the US later that year.
Media use and appearance
Various Cruelties appears on Later with Jools Holland in the UK. Its recordings are later used in advertising and trailer placements, including for Zales and for the HBO series Banshee.
