Unitary

Unitary is a Swedish electronic act based in Stockholm. It is founded in 2001 by Johan Hansson, who writes the music and lyrics and handles the recording himself. The project is also associated with live member Daniel Söderberg.

Style and background

Unitary works in futurepop, EBM, synthpop and electronic music. Its sound is described as combining early Covenant-style electronic pop with more modern influences from acts such as Assemblage 23, Frozen Plasma and Diorama. The project is presented as a narrative built around order and disorder, longing, endurance and imagined bliss in a conformist age.

Releases and label work

Unitary releases music on Infacted Recordings. Before its first full studio album, it appears on Infacted Compilation 1 and contributes the vocal guest appearance on Frozen Plasma’s track “Ebb and Flow”. Its first official studio album is Safe From Harm. Earlier releases include Second to None and Desolate Ways, along with appearances on the compilation albums Monument 8 and Monument 9.

The project is from Sweden and is based in Stockholm, while its creative force Johan Hansson is from Uppsala. It is positioned within the country’s alternative electronic pop scene alongside acts such as Covenant, Cat Rapes Dog and Necro Facility.
