Turf
Turf is an Argentine rock band from Buenos Aires, active since 1995. The group forms in December 1995 and plays in and around Buenos Aires before moving into wider national visibility through a series of albums, festival appearances and major support slots. Its members are Fernando Caloia, Joaquín Levinton, Leandro Lopatín, Nicolás Ottavianelli and Carlos Tapia.
Early releases and collaborations
The band’s first album, Una pila de vida, appears in August 1997. Charly García takes part on the track “Despiole generacional”, and the album’s promotional songs are “Casanova” and “Crónica Te Ve”. In the same year, Turf plays with Los Ratones Paranoicos at the Buenos Aires Vivo festival. In 1998, the band supports The Rolling Stones at their River Plate Stadium concert in Buenos Aires.
Later albums
After ending its contract with Universal, Turf releases its second album, Siempre libre, with support from Musimundo Records. Charly García also appears on this album, contributing to “Esa luz”. In 2001, the band takes part in the concert at Campo Argentino de Polo alongside R.E.M. and Oasis. That year it releases its third album, Turfshow, whose song “Loco un poco” becomes one of the most played tracks of the summer in Argentina. The fourth album, Para mi, para vos, follows in 2004, and “No se llama amor” brings the band greater popularity.
