Tom Vek is the stage name of a British solo artist from Hounslow, United Kingdom, born in 1981. He makes music that combines indie rock, electronic music, dance-punk and other alternative influences, with references in his sound including new wave, garage and post-punk energy.

Vek starts out as an eclectic one-man band, but he also performs with a full backing group for some live shows. As a teenager in the mid-1990s, he begins by making rock music inspired by grunge, including the work of bands such as Smashing Pumpkins and Pearl Jam. Before that, he plays bass and drums for his guitarist father in their practice space and garage. When his family gets a reel-to-reel tape recorder, he begins recording his own material at home, and his style shifts from grunge into electronica influenced by labels such as Warp and Ninja Tune.

He sends recordings through a family friend, Alex Cooper of Katrina & The Waves, whose cousin Tim Lee runs the label Tummy Touch. Lee signs Vek, and in 2001 Vek releases his first official record, the 7-inch There's Only One Thing Left Now. While studying graphic design at St. Martins, he works on a full-length release for the label, but his music moves again towards a sharper, more guitar-led sound. The single If You Want points to this direction, and he plays live dates supporting acts including Bloc Party and Engineers.

Vek's debut album, We Have Sound, appears in the United Kingdom in 2005 on Tummy Touch and is later sublicensed by Island/Universal, with Startime International releasing it in the United States. His second album, Leisure Seizure, follows on Island.
