This Wild Life

This Wild Life is a two-man acoustic group from Long Beach, United States, active since 2011. It begins with Kevin Jordan and Anthony Del Grosso, who meet in their early 20s after growing up on opposite sides of the country and discovering that they have similar musical backgrounds. Both are drummers, and both are influenced by a wide range of music, from blink-182 and Dashboard Confessional to Earth, Wind & Fire and Snoop Dogg.

Formation and early years

Jordan meets Del Grosso while working at a guitar store, and the two start a band together. They spend around six months trying different singers before Del Grosso tells Jordan to handle vocals himself. The group works for years as a local act and builds an audience at its home venue, but does not break through in the wider industry.

After their last show as a louder band, Del Grosso sells his drum kit and the pair decide to focus on acoustic material. They finance a trip across the country to record a full-length album, which becomes Clouded (Deluxe Edition) and brings them wider recognition.

Recorded work

In 2016, the duo returns to the studio with a set of songs that differs from their first record and releases Low Tides. Their producer, Ryan Hadlock, known for work with The Lumineers and Vance Joy, helps them explore more unusual instrumentation. They later record Petaluma, which they present as their next album.

Style

The group is an alternative rock and rock act, with a sound rooted in acoustic performance. Their background also places them within pop punk, indie, emo and rock circles.
