The Script

The Script is a pop rock band from Dublin, Ireland, formed in 2001. The group’s core members are Danny O’Donoghue, Glen Power and Mark Sheehan, with Sheehan co-founding the band with O’Donoghue. The band is active on Phonogenic and is associated with pop rock, rock and soft rock. Its line-up has also included bass and guitar players beyond the founding trio, including Benjamin Seargent and Ben Weaver.

Career and recordings

The Script first reaches a wide chart audience with its debut single, We Cry, which peaks at number fifteen, followed by The Man Who Can’t Be Moved, which reaches number two. The group’s self-titled debut album, The Script, becomes a number one album on iTunes in both Ireland and the United Kingdom. Later singles from the album include Breakeven, Talk You Down and Before the Worst.

The second album, Science and Faith, reaches number one in both the UK and Irish album charts. Its lead single, For the First Time, peaks at number four in the UK, and the follow-up single is Nothing. The third album, #3, includes Hall of Fame, a collaboration with will.i.am, along with Six Degrees of Separation and If You Could See Me Now, a tribute to O’Donoghue’s father and Sheehan’s parents.

The band’s fourth album, No Sound Without Silence, includes Superheroes, No Good in Goodbye and Man on a Wire. After this period, the band takes a hiatus, later explained as time off after four albums and five world tours, with O’Donoghue also requiring throat surgery.

In 2017 the band releases Freedom Child, led by Rain, with promotional singles Written in the Scars and Love Not Lovers, and the single Arms Open. The sixth album, Sunsets & Full Moons, follows in 2019, with The Last Time, Something Unreal and Run Through Walls among its singles and promotional releases. The band also issues I Want It All and the compilation Tales from the Script: Greatest Hits.

Later activity

Mark Sheehan dies in 2023 after a brief illness. In 2024, the band announces that Ben Sargeant and Ben Weaver join the group on bass and lead guitar respectively. The Script then releases Both Ways and At Your Feet ahead of its seventh album, Satellites.
