The Franklys

The Franklys are a UK garage rock'n'roll group based in London. They form as an all-female quartet, with Nicole Pinto on drums, Zoe Biggs on bass, Jen Ahlkvist on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, and Fanny Broberg on lead guitar. Ahlkvist and Broberg are Swedish, while Pinto is American and Biggs is from the UK.

Career

The band begins playing live in London in 2012 with a sell-out show at the 100 Club. It then builds a reputation through regular performances in the capital and beyond, including a tour of east-coast America in 2013 and the group’s first shows in Sweden in early 2014. It also plays further dates across the UK, including appearances on the Main Stage and the XFM Stage at Strawberry Fields Festival in Leicestershire, and later performs in Germany and Norway.

Recordings and releases

The Franklys release an eponymous debut EP in early 2013. A single called Puppet follows in 2014, recorded on 2" tape and issued as a limited-edition 7" vinyl. Both are produced and mastered by Sean Douglas and Brian Lucey at Fish Factory Studios in London. The video for Puppet premieres on Clash Magazine’s website and draws attention from outlets including Artrocker, Vive le Rock and Sonic Shocks.

The group also records What You Said at Rockfield Studios. The track is produced by Sean Genockey and mastered by Ed Woods.

Radio and press

The Franklys’ music receives airplay on stations including A1 Radio and Roundhouse Radio in London, as well as Artrocker Radio, Bugbear Radio, Front Range Radio and Hard to Port Radio in Baltimore, USA.
