The Crack
The Crack are a Cheltenham oi! and punk band who win a televised Battle of the Bands competition in 1982, with Slade frontman Noddy Holder among the voters. That result leads to a deal with RCA, for whom the band releases three singles.
Early releases and debut album
The band does not make major progress with those singles, but later records its debut album, In Search Of The Crack, for Link Records in 1989. The album helps build a grassroots following.
Style and members
The Crack play catchy, muscular but tuneful punk-influenced songs, with Steve Jones on vocals and guitar. Jones is noted for a delivery often compared with Noddy Holder. Other members named are Shane Woolridge on guitar, Dean Gifford on bass, Tony Capaldi on bass, Pete Maszlag on lead guitar, Dave Beale on bass, and Mark Hannan on drums.
