The Blackout
The Blackout are a Welsh post-hardcore and screamo band from Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales, active from 2003 to 2015. The group’s line-up includes Sean Smith and Gavin Butler, and their sound is described through a mix of heavy guitars, riffs, screams, thunderous drums, melodies and emotionally driven vocals. Their music is also tagged across metal, punk and rock.
Career and releases
The Blackout play widely in the UK and perform alongside acts including Funeral for a Friend, Fightstar, Avenged Sevenfold, dredg, 18 Visions, Thrice, Hidden in Plain View, My Chemical Romance, Lostprophets and You Me At Six. Their debut mini-album, The Blackout! The Blackout! The Blackout!, is released through Fierce Panda Records, with “Hard Slammin” as the first single. They follow it with We Are The Dynamite, also on Fierce Panda Records, and then The Best In Town, which includes the tracks “ShutTheFuckUppercut” and “Children of the Night”.
Recognition
The band is nominated for Best British Newcomer at the 2006 Kerrang Awards, but loses to Bring Me The Horizon. They are also noted as one of the few unsigned bands to sell out the London Astoria, alongside Enter Shikari, You Me at Six and The Darkness.
