The Big Pink

The Big Pink are a London-based electro rock group formed in 2007. They are associated with electro, electronic rock, indie rock, rock and shoegaze, and are described as a London-based electro duo. The group’s membership is given as Milo Cordell, Robbie Furze and Akiko Matsuura.

Background

The band takes its name from “Big Pink”, the house in upstate New York where The Band and Bob Dylan make a set of well-known recordings. Robbie Furze handles vocals and guitar in the group, while Milo Cordell contributes keyboards, synths and vocals. Vicky Jean Smith appears as the drummer in the band’s early line-up.

Cordell is the son of 1960s pop producer Denny and runs the Merok label, which releases acts including Klaxons and Crystal Castles. Furze previously plays guitar with the electro-punk musician Alec Empire and is also a founding member of Panic DHH.

Releases and chart success

The Big Pink are best known for the single “Dominos”, which reaches number 27 on the UK Singles Chart and number 36 on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart in the United States. Their first singles include “Too Young To Love”/“Crystal Visions” on House Anxiety, followed by “Velvet” and “Stop the World” on 4AD.

The debut album, A Brief History of Love, is recorded at Electric Ladyland Studios in New York and appears in the UK on 14 September 2009. The second album, Future This, is released on 4AD.

Performances and activity

The band supports acts including Muse, TV On The Radio, Florence + The Machine, Crystal Castles and Klaxons. They also support Muse on the UK leg of The Resistance Tour.
