The Aleph is an IDM and trip hop group from Denton, Texas. The group consists of Matt Cheney and Matt Piersall.

The name comes from Jorge Luis Borges’s short story of the same name. In Borges’s story, the Aleph is described as a point where all places in the world can be seen from every angle, and the band takes that idea as part of its identity.

The Aleph is associated with electronic pop and laptop rock, and its music draws on indie, experimental indie, British alternative, trip hop and gothic influences. It is described as using samples, turntable-style techniques and live recording sessions to shape material that moves between abstract glitch and more conventional pop forms.

The group’s work includes Live From Northpark Mall, an album built from live sessions and centred on samples taken from mall ambience and trainyard sounds. The recording process emphasises electronic manipulation alongside a strong vocal presence.

There are multiple acts using the name The Aleph, but the Denton group is the one identified here.
