Teengirl Fantasy

Teengirl Fantasy is an electronic music group from Oberlin, United States, active since 2008. The duo consists of Logan Takahashi and Nicholas Weiss, who meet while studying at Oberlin College and connect over a shared interest in classic house and techno records. They set out to make dance music that does not simply copy what they hear, and they develop their music through improvisation over loops that grow into full compositions.

Their work is performed and composed live rather than built around triggering loops or quantisation. This approach gives their music a form of dialogue between the group and their instruments. Their sound combines colourful, maximalist textures and tones with a driving rhythm, while keeping a human and emotional character. The group is associated with electronic, experimental, indie, psych dance and disco.

Releases

Teengirl Fantasy follows its second album, Tracer, with the EP Nun, which appears in 2013. The four-track release does not include vocalists, unlike some of the group’s earlier work. It reflects elements of the duo’s earlier material while also pointing towards new directions in their sound and the group’s third full-length album.
