Teddy Thompson

Teddy Thompson is a British folk and rock musician from London, England. Born in 1976, he is the son of Linda Thompson and Richard Thompson, who performed and recorded together as Richard & Linda Thompson, and the brother of singer Kami Thompson.

Musical background

Thompson grows up around folk music and listens to a wide range of artists including Hank Williams, Jimi Hendrix, Sam Cooke and gospel music. His work develops from these influences into a blend of country and western, rock and his father’s folk-rock, making his style difficult to place in a single genre.

Career

While putting together his first record deal, Thompson plays regular shows at Jon Brion’s venue Largo in Los Angeles. He signs to Geffen, which is later absorbed by Virgin. In 2000 he releases his debut album, Teddy Thompson, which receives strong critical attention but limited commercial success. He then spends several years touring and writing before recording his second album independently.

His fourth album, A Piece of What You Need, is released in 2008. His fifth studio album, Bella, follows in 2011. Throughout his career, his family remains closely involved in his music.
