Subb-an, also known as Ashique, is a Birmingham-based house and techno producer and DJ. He works across deep house, tech house and Detroit-influenced styles, and is associated with the UK underground dance scene.
Career
Subb-an holds a residency at Birmingham club night Below, a regular platform in his home city. He also appears at venues and events outside the West Midlands, including London’s The End, T-bar, and Technique in Leeds.
He releases music on UK labels including Leftroom, Hypercolour and Immigrant Records. His productions include The Corridors Of Life EP, which appears in 2008, and Opiates EP, which follows in 2009 and includes a remix from John Tejada.
His release Italia on Leftroom receives attention from M8, Mixmag and IDJ, and his tracks are played by artists including Laurent Garnier, Richie Hawtin, Sasha, Paul Woolford and Luciano.
Support and recognition
Subb-an’s work receives support from Josh Wink, Loco Dice, Solomun, Jimpster and Soul Designer. His performances at Below also place him alongside artists such as Anja Schneider, Sebo K, Ralf Kollmann, Dinky, Jamie Jones and Clive Henry.
