Stza Crack, also known as Scott Sturgeon, is a United States punk-ska musician born in 1976. He fronts and has fronted several bands in the New York area, with Choking Victim and Leftöver Crack the best known.

Career

In 1990, Sturgeon and Alec Baillie form No Commercial Value, a project that later develops into Choking Victim and then Leftöver Crack. He remains a constant presence through those line-ups, writing most of the lyrics and music and acting as the bands’ spokesperson. He is also associated with Reagan Youth and Star Fucking Hipsters.

Style and projects

His work is linked with crack rock steady, acoustic punk and anarchist punk scenes. He performs live with Leftöver Crack, with the original incarnation of Choking Victim, as a solo acoustic act, and with a Crack Rock Steady Seven line-up that includes members of The Infested in Europe and in 2005. In 2006 he forms another regional Crack Rock Steady Seven in Mexico, called CRS7mx.

Aliases and name variants

The name Stza comes from an influence of the Wu-Tang Clan, and he uses a range of related aliases and spellings, including Sturg, Sturgeon, STZ, The Stza, Stza Crack, Crack Daddy Kane, Osama St'z Laden, Sporty Lice, Mr. Crack and Ol' dirty stza.

Other activity and reputation

He travels to Chiapas in Mexico to do voluntary work with the Zapatistas. He also has a reputation for being difficult to work with or associate with, and a disputed incident at 924 Gilman leads to a lifetime ban from some underground venues, including ABC No Rio in New York City.
