Straight Lines

Straight Lines are a Welsh indie rock band from Pontypridd, Wales, active from 2009. The group centres on Dane Campbell and Tyla Campbell, and the line-up in the early years also includes Tom Jenkins on drums and vocals, Todd Campbell on bass, and James Pugh on guitar. Todd Campbell is previously in Dopamine.

Recording and releases

The band works in a DIY manner, recording its debut album before playing a live show. That first 12-track release is Persistence In This Game, which the band writes, produces, mixes and masters in Todd Campbell’s garage studio. Xtra Mile Recordings releases the album in early 2010, with “vs. The Allegiance” as the lead single. The band later spends time recording a second album, Freaks Like Us, again with Todd Campbell overseeing the sessions. “Half Gone” appears as a single and video ahead of that album.

Live activity

Straight Lines build a strong live profile after forming. They support Kids In Glass Houses, The Automatic, InMe, Motorhead at Hammersmith Apollo, The Get Up Kids, Frank Turner, The Xcerts, Failsafe, Attack!Attack!, Less Than Jake, The Subways and Funeral For A Friend. They also appear at BBC Radio 1 Introducing’s Maida Vale session, SXSW, Latitude’s Welsh Music Day, Download Festival, Sonisphere Festival, Camden Crawl and Slam Dunk Festival.

Their music is described through a mix of pop-punk melodies, heavy riffs and concise lyrics, with the band tagged as alternative rock, pop punk, AOR, rock and mall emo.
