Steve Thorpe
Steve Thorpe is a blues and blues rock guitarist and singer from Kentucky, now based on the east coast of Florida in the United States. He is known for a direct, aggressive style rooted in Chicago and Texas blues, and he also plays dobro.
Style and background
Thorpe grows up in eastern Kentucky and listens to bluegrass throughout his childhood. He says that bluegrass dobro playing leads him toward the blues, and he occasionally performs sets of delta blues songs when the setting suits. His work is described as centred on blues, with occasional collaborations that call for dobro and picking.
Career
He is a long-time figure in the Melbourne, Florida music scene, where he performs for more than two decades. For ten years he fronts his own band, Steve Thorpe and the Blues Orchestra.
Recordings
Thorpe releases two CDs: Trouble and Live, Down and Dirty. The latter appears in 2006.
Collaborations
He also performs with Todd Taylor on occasion, bringing out the dobro for those sessions.
