Skubas
Skubas is the stage name of Radosław Skubaja, a Polish singer, guitarist and composer from Lublin. Born in 1981, he is associated with alternative music and has also used the names Sqbass and MC Sqbass.
Background
He starts out playing electric guitar in local bands before turning his attention to singing. In 2005, he studies jazz and popular music with a focus on vocals at the Academy of Music in Katowice.
Collaborations and work
Skubas works with a range of Polish artists, including Smolik, Novika, Envee, Kayah, 15 Minut Projekt and Matt Kowalsky. His early profile in Polish rock is linked to a return to simplicity and authenticity, according to contemporary critical response to his first album.
Albums and recognition
His debut album, Wilczełyko, is issued by Kayax in 2012. The following year he receives Fryderyk nominations for Phonographic Debut of the Year and Song of the Year for “Linoskoczek”. His second album, Brzask, appears in 2014 and reaches third place on the Polish sales charts; the single “Nie mam dla ciebie miłości” tops the Trójka chart. He later releases Duch in 2020 and W ogień in 2024.
Live appearances
He performs at major festivals including SoundCity in Liverpool, Open’er Festival, Malta Festival and Jarocin Festival.
