Skånska Mord
Skånska Mord is a Swedish stoner rock and hard rock group formed in 2006 in Örkelljunga, Sweden. The band brings together members from the earlier groups Half Man and Mothercake, and its members share a long history of playing in the same local scene in Örkelljunga.
Background and membership
Janne Bengtsson and Patric Carlsson play together in Half Man before Skånska Mord and have also played in Tectonic Break. Half Man releases two full-length albums: The Complete Field Guide for Cynics and Red Herring. Their first album is a self-released private pressing, and the second appears on the Italian label Beard of Stars. Tectonic Break contributes one track to the Small Stone Records compilation Sucking the 70’s 2002.
Patrik Berglin, Thomas Jönsson and Petter Englund come from Mothercake, another long-running band from the same area. Mothercake releases one privately pressed self-titled album in 2003. Half Man and Mothercake also share the split single Half Man vs. Mothercake Vol. 1 in 1999.
Style and influences
The band’s members all come from Örkelljunga and have known each other since their early teenage years. Their shared background includes a strong interest in 1970s hard rock and heavy rock, along with collections of vintage vinyl spanning hard rock, progressive rock, blues and psychedelia. Skånska Mord develops a sound associated with the same local tradition that shaped Half Man and Mothercake, combining blues-based heavy rock and heavier metal elements with a clearly 1970s influence.
Line-up
Skånska Mord consists of Jan Bengtsson on vocals and harmonica, Patric Carlsson on bass, Thomas Jönsson on drums, Patrik Berglin on guitar and Petter Englund on guitar.
Recording
The album The Last Supper is recorded in spring 2009 by Martin Ekelund and appears on Small Stone Records.
