SikTh are a progressive metal band from Watford, United Kingdom. Formed in 2000, they are known for a technical and unorthodox style that places them alongside progressive metal, mathcore, metalcore and avant-garde metal. Their lineup includes Dan Weller, Mikee Goodman, Justin Hill, Joe Rosser, Dan Foord, James Leach and Graham Pinney.

Style and recognition

Their music combines technical metal with elements of metalcore, death metal, groove metal, rock and hardcore. They are also associated with math metal and are frequently described through the complexity of their instrumental parts. Their work attracts attention from metal magazines such as Kerrang! and Metal Hammer, and BBC Radio 1 DJ Mary Anne Hobbs is an early supporter.

Releases

The band’s debut EP, Let The Transmitting Begin, appears in the UK in 2002. Its songs also feature on their first album, The Trees Are Dead & Dried Out… Wait For Something Wild, which comes out in 2003 on Gut Records. The album yields the singles “Scent Of The Obscene” and “Peep Show”. Their second album, Death of a Dead Day, arrives in 2006 on Spinefarm Records.

Live activity and break-up

After performing at Download Festival 2006, the band plays a run of UK shows, including headlining the Collision Course festival in Bridgend and Yeovil. They announce a split in 2008 after a period of hiatus, but later reform and return to live performance.

Line-up changes

Mikee W Goodman and Justin Hill both leave in 2007. Goodman leaves to focus on another band, while Hill leaves to produce and work on side projects.
