Santigold

Santigold is a musician, songwriter and producer from Philadelphia, United States. Born in 1976, she performs in electronic, hip hop, new wave and pop styles, and is also associated with indie, alternative and dub.

Career

She first records and performs under the name Santogold before changing it to Santigold in February 2009, after legal threats related to the name from infomercial jeweller Santo Gold. She is best known for L.E.S. Artistes, which becomes a hit in the UK and on American alternative radio.

Before her solo work, White is the lead singer of the Philadelphia-based punk rock band Stiffed. While in the band, she is offered a solo contract. She makes her debut album, Santogold, with fellow Stiffed member John Hill acting as co-producer; it is released in 2008.
