Rudimental

Rudimental are a British pop and dance group from Hackney, London. The group forms in 2010 and consists of Piers Aggett, Amir Amor, Kesi Dryden and DJ Locksmith. They work across deep house, drum and bass, electronic music, jungle, liquid funk and pop, and are also associated with dubstep and UK funky.

Background

The group starts as an east London quartet built around songwriters and producers Piers Aggett, Kesi Dryden and Amir Amor, alongside DJ Locksmith. Piers Aggett and Locksmith grow up on the same road in Hackney, while Kesi Dryden lives nearby in Stoke Newington and attends the same school as Labrinth and Professor Green. Amir Amor joins the collective in mid-2011 after working with them on remixes.

Style and approach

Rudimental describe their aim as bringing soul back into electronic music. They emphasise musicality and songwriting rather than fitting neatly into a single category, and their influences include grime, jazz, blues, hip-hop and house. They also connect their sound to figures and acts such as Sly and the Family Stone, Todd Edwards and Dr. Dre.

Label

The group records on Major Toms.
