Rodney Cromwell
Rodney Cromwell is the solo electronic project of Adam Cresswell, a UK indie and synthpop artist whose work sits between lo-fi synthpop, indie pop and Krautrock-influenced electronic music. The project uses toy instruments and vintage synthesizers such as Moogs and ARPs, alongside melodic bass lines and pop melodies.
Background
The Rodney Cromwell name first appears on a track released in 2002 as part of a tribute to The Lord of the Rings. Before and during that period, Cresswell is active in other groups, including Saloon and Arthur & Martha.
Saloon
Saloon is an indie and folkatronica band active from 1999 to 2003, with Cresswell as a founding member. The group releases three albums on Darla and Track and Field, receives album of the year attention in the national press, gets substantial play on US college radio, records three Peel Sessions, and appears in John Peel’s Festive 50 on four occasions.
Arthur & Martha
After Saloon ends, Cresswell forms Arthur & Martha, an electronic duo active from 2005 to 2010. The pair are compared to Kraftwerk, OMD, Gilbert & George, and their album Navigation receives strong reviews from NME and Artrocker.
Rodney Cromwell recordings
The debut Rodney Cromwell album, Age of Anxiety, combines pop sensibility with Krautrock rhythms, melodic bass lines, and sounds from vintage and homemade electronic instruments. It establishes the project’s blend of synthpop and indie elements.
