Robert Plant is a British rock singer and songwriter from West Bromwich, United Kingdom, born in 1948. He is best known as the lead vocalist of Led Zeppelin, and his voice is noted for its power and wide range.

Career with Led Zeppelin and beyond

Plant is a member of Led Zeppelin, one of the most influential rock bands, and he remains strongly associated with the group. After the band ends following the death of drummer John Bonham in 1980, he continues with a solo career that draws on blues, folk, 1950s rock and roll, dance pop and related styles. Tracks from this period include “Big Log”, “Tall Cool One”, “In the Mood” and “I Believe”.

Collaborations and group projects

In 1984, Plant forms The Honeydrippers with Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck and Phil Collins. The group has a top ten hit with “Sea of Love”, a remake of the Phil Phillips song. He also performs with Jimmy Page in Page & Plant, and later records and performs with bluegrass singer Alison Krauss under the name Robert Plant & Alison Krauss. Their album Raising Sand is produced by T-Bone Burnett and recorded in Nashville and Los Angeles.

Other bands and projects

Plant also works with The Band of Joy, a pre-Zeppelin group that he revisits for later touring, and with Robert Plant and the Strange Sensation, a project influenced by Moroccan music. That group’s releases receive critical acclaim and multiple Grammy nominations. In 2012, he begins the Sensational Space Shifters and releases the live album Robert Plant Presents: Sensational Space Shifters. He is also associated with Band of Joy, The Fabulous Brill Brothers, Priory of Brion, The Crawling King Snakes, Rockestra, The RD Crusaders, Saving Grace and Listen.
