Ramjac

Ramjac is a house and electronica artist who begins releasing music with Irdial Discs in 1990. He plays live at raves from 1988 using an Atari and an Emax sampler, and later builds his own studio in 1994. His work sits across live performance, production and programming, and he continues to write and programme with and for other artists.

Live work and early releases

He performs at a range of events and rave gatherings, including Sunrise, Back To The Future, Energy, Live Wire, Humanity and Spiral Tribe. He is also closely associated with the Fun-da-mental collective, performing alongside Orbital, Stikka and others, which leads to a tour with Shaman. He collaborates live with Mixmaster Morris, also known as the Irresistible Force, and with Dr Das, who later forms Asian Dub Foundation.

Recordings and dancefloor tracks

Ramjac records two versions of Cameroon Massif, both of which become dancefloor favourites. One appears on Irdial and is championed by Mr C of the Shamen, who uses two copies in his DJ sets. The other is a live version on Brainiaks’ Live at the Brain album, known for changing speed halfway through and then back again, making it a track that DJs manipulate by adjusting the turntable speed.

Collaborations

After building his studio, Ramjac works with a wide range of musicians and artists, including Visionary Underground, Ardisson, State Of Bengal, Mark Stewart, Filthy Dirty Rich, Zoe Richardson, Paban Das Paul, Herbie Hancock, Coldcut, Jeff Wayne, Holger Hiller, Laurel Aitken, Nick Halkes, Chip-E, Freq Nasty, Gilad Atzmon, Dj Face, Ben Watkins, Asian Dub Foundation and the London Symphony Orchestra. He also continues to work with Juno Reactor, Mixmaster Morris and Dr Das.

Current activity

He plays his music exclusively on Ramjac Radio.
