Peter Hook and The Light

Peter Hook and The Light is a Manchester-based group led by Peter Hook, the former bassist of Joy Division and New Order. The project is active from 2010 and features Hook alongside Nat Wason, Andy Poole, Jack Bates, Paul Kehoe, David Potts and Martin Rebelski.

Background

Peter Hook is born in Salford, Greater Manchester, in 1956. He is a co-founder of Joy Division, which he forms with Bernard Sumner in 1976. The group recruits Ian Curtis and Stephen Morris to complete the line-up, and later becomes New Order after Curtis dies in 1980. Hook plays bass in New Order until 1993, then again from 1998 to 2007.

Before and alongside this work, Hook is involved in other projects including Revenge, active from 1989 to 1993, and Monaco, active from 1996 to 2001. After he and Bernard Sumner stop working together in 2007, Hook continues with Freebass, which releases It’s a Beautiful Life and then splits.

The Light

Since 2007, Hook works with The Light and tours internationally performing Joy Division’s Unknown Pleasures in full. Later tours include other Joy Division and New Order albums. The group also releases a series of live albums drawn from Joy Division and New Order material.

Style and membership

The act is associated with alternative dance, alternative rock, new wave and post-punk. Its current line-up includes Peter Hook, Nat Wason, Andy Poole, Jack Bates, Paul Kehoe, David Potts and Martin Rebelski.
