Paul Mosley

Paul Mosley is a singer and songwriter from Hartlepool and London, born in 1972. He works across alt-folk, folk pop and theatre music, and is also composer in residence for the Carriage Works Theatre.

Career

He first gains attention as one half of the cult alt-folk act MOSES. With that project, he receives playlist support from BBC Radio 2 and BBC 6 Music and is reviewed in publications including NME, Q and Time Out. He also tours widely, including dates with Shane MacGowan, Mistys Big Adventure, Sam Brown, It’s Jo & Danny and others, and performs at venues and events ranging from Glastonbury to an Amsterdam brothel.

As a solo artist, Mosley releases six solo albums over a period of six years. These records use a wide range of guest musicians, including players associated with Florence and the Machine, Feist, The Irrepressibles and Patrick Wolf. His work is described in terms of its unusual and sometimes disturbing mix of magic realist folk pop and melodic songwriting.

Releases and reception

His album A Chattering Of Birds is released through Folkwit Records and becomes his most successful release to that point. It is based on field recordings of bird song and receives strong reviews, album of the week recognition and radio play in multiple countries, including Italy and Australia. Other critical responses linked to his work include praise from Q magazine, resonance.fm, BBC 6 Music’s Tom Robinson, Americana-UK and Fatea Records.

Other work

Alongside recording and performing, Mosley writes music for theatre, with a particular focus on puppetry. This theatrical work sits alongside his solo and collaborative output.
