Patterns

Patterns are a British electronic group from the United Kingdom, active from 2010 to the present. They are also identified as a Manchester shoegaze band, and their music sits across electronic and shoegaze, with tag associations including synthpop, electropop, indie, new wave and female vocalists.

History

The group emerges in 2010 with the debut release New Noise. That release leads Manchester zine makers Pull Yourself Together to set up a record label in order to issue it. The band describes itself as making loud music in darkly lit rooms, but its recorded sound is characterised by spacious, celestial textures, a moody atmosphere and a balance between melody, songcraft, and tension between restraint and release.

Recordings and performances

Patterns sign to Melodic Records in May 2011. Their early profile also includes an invitation from Huw Stephens to play one of his nights at The Social in March, following the attention drawn by New Noise.
