Overhead
Overhead is a Finnish progressive rock band formed in 1999. The group’s lineup includes Alex Keskitalo on vocals and flute, Jaakko Kettunen on guitars, Tarmo Simonen on piano and keyboards, Janne Pylkkönen on bass, and Ville Sjöblom on drums. The band is associated with crossover prog and progressive rock.
Style and sound
Overhead plays melodic, thematic music that moves between gentle ambient sections, more traditional rock passages, and heavier moments. Their music is described as combining vintage and modern elements while maintaining a distinct sound.
Releases
The band’s first album, Zumanthum, appears in 2002 on Mellow Records. Their second album, Metaepitome, follows in 2005 on Musea and receives strong international attention, with widespread critical praise, album-of-the-month recognition in several magazines and webzines, and radio play in multiple countries. In 2008, Musea releases And We’re Not Here After All, which continues and expands their earlier sound. In 2012, the band releases Of Sun and Moon on Progressive Promotion Records.
Live activity
Overhead performs at clubs and festivals across Europe, including ProgResiste Convention in Belgium, Prog’Sud in France, and pROCKfest in Germany. In 2009 the band plays the Prog Rock festival in Poland, where its first DVD, Live After All, is recorded and later issued by Metal Mind. The group supports the album and DVD with its longest tour to that point, and the tour also marks the band’s 10th anniversary.
