Nightmare Of You
Nightmare Of You are an alternative rock and indie rock group from Long Island, United States. They form in 2004 and are active from then onward. The group’s membership includes Brandon Reilly, Joe McCaffrey, Ryan Heil and Sammy Siegler, although the band’s line-up changes over time.
Background
Brandon Reilly is the former guitarist of the melodic hardcore band The Movielife. In Nightmare Of You, he performs vocals and guitar. The band also includes Joseph McCaffrey on guitar, with Brandon Meyer on bass and Michael Fleischmann on drums in one line-up. Their sound is influenced by groups such as The Smiths and The Cure.
Releases and recognition
Nightmare Of You release a self-titled debut album in 2005, following a 2004 demo containing five songs. One of those early songs, originally called “Yuengling”, later appears on the album as “I Want to be Buried in Your Backyard”, with changes to the title, lyrics and melody. Singles from the album include “I Want To Be Buried In Your Backyard”, “The Days Go By Oh So Slow” and “My Name Is Trouble”. The track “Dear Scene, I Wish I Were Deaf” also appears on the FIFA 2007 soundtrack.
The band wins Yahoo! Music’s “Who’s Next?” competition for April 2006 and receives nominations for mtvU Woodie Awards for Best Tour and Most Downloaded. They also cover the Flaming Lips song “Waitin’ For A Superman” for the Sound of Superman soundtrack.
Later activity
After their debut, Nightmare Of You leave The Bevonshire Label and do not have a new label in place at that point. In 2007 they begin recording a new album after a second headlining UK tour with support from The Cinematics and Circuits, but instead of releasing that album they issue the EP Bang on 11 September 2007. The EP includes five new tracks, among them “Bang” and “Herbal Jazz Cigarette”, and the band later plays shows in the United States and select dates in the UK in support of it.
In 2008 they tour the United States on the Bang Tour with The Graduate, Paper Rival and Edison Glass. Around this period they post a series of demo recordings online, including “I Think I’m Getting Older”, “Someday, But Not Today”, “Tell Me When It’s Over”, “Hey Sweetheart”, “Eustacia Vye” and “Long Island”. They also release a split 7-inch with This Is Hell, featuring the tracks “You Don’t Have To Tell Me I Was A Terrible Man” and “Dopesick Couples”.
The band begins recording a new studio album in Soho, New York, on 2 January 2009. Ryan Heil leaves in February 2009 after discussions about touring, and Brandon Meyer joins on bass. Their album Infomaniac follows later in 2009. In 2011 Brandon Reilly says the band plans to record again, with only Brandon and Joe remaining as permanent members at that point.
