Netsky is the stage name of Boris Daenen, a drum and bass artist from Edegem, Belgium, born in 1989. He is known for liquid funk, with a sound that develops from deep, rolling club tracks into more pop-oriented singles and albums. His work also spans electronic, breakbeat, dubstep, hip-hop and electro-house.

Career

Netsky first appears under that name in 2009, with releases on independent drum and bass labels including Talkin Beatz and Liq-weed Ganja. Later that year he signs to Hospital Records, the London label associated with London Elektricity. His self-titled debut album follows in 2010 and includes both dancefloor tracks and songs with guest vocalists.

His second album, 2, arrives in 2012. It reaches number one in Belgium and also charts in New Zealand and the UK. The album includes four singles that chart in the Belgian Top 20, and features guest vocals from Diane Charlemagne and Billie. By this point, Netsky also tours with a full live band.

In 2014 he releases “Running Low” with Beth Ditto, his first number one single in Belgium. He signs with Epic Records and releases his third album, 3, in 2016. That record includes guest appearances from Emeli Sandé, Saint Raymond, Lowell and Digital Farm Animals, and again reaches the top of the Belgian charts while entering the Top Ten of the dance charts in the UK and the United States.

Collaborations and remixes

Netsky works with a wide range of other artists, including Danny Byrd, Beth Ditto, Lost Frequencies, A.CHAL and Aloe Blacc. He also builds a profile as a remixer, with versions of tracks by Pendulum, Plan B, Leftfield, Audio Bullys, Swedish House Mafia, Jessie J and Rusko among the best known.

Style

His early reputation rests on smooth, melodic drum and bass in the liquid funk style. Over time, his releases broaden into more pop-influenced material while retaining a strong club focus.
