Neil Diamond

Neil Diamond is an American singer-songwriter from Brooklyn, United States, born in 1941. He is associated with pop, rock, soft rock, pop rock, baroque pop and singer-songwriter music, and is linked to the acts Ten Broken Hearts and the Neil Diamond Band.

Career

Diamond sells more than 56.5 million records in the United States, placing him among the country’s best-selling musicians. He writes and records a large number of songs that become major chart hits, including ten singles that reach number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and Adult Contemporary charts. Those titles include “Cracklin’ Rosie”, “Song Sung Blue”, “Longfellow Serenade”, “I’ve Been This Way Before”, “If You Know What I Mean”, “Desirée”, “You Don’t Bring Me Flowers”, “America”, “Yesterday’s Songs” and “Heartlight”. “You Don’t Bring Me Flowers” is co-written with Marilyn Bergman and performed with Barbra Streisand, while “Heartlight” is co-written with Carole Bayer Sager and Burt Bacharach.

He also places thirty-eight songs in the top 10 of the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart, including “Sweet Caroline”. His film debut comes with the 1980 musical drama The Jazz Singer.

Recognition

Diamond is inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1984 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2011. He receives the Sammy Cahn Lifetime Achievement Award in 2000, is honoured at the Kennedy Center Honors in 2011, and receives the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2018.
