Ms. Dynamite

Ms. Dynamite is the performing name of Niomi Arleen McLean-Daley, a British hip hop and R&B artist from Archway, United Kingdom. She is known for work that also draws on UK garage and rap.

Background

Born in 1981, she is raised in Archway, London, to a Scottish mother and a Jamaican father. She grows up listening to reggae and hip hop. Before pursuing music full time, she also considers becoming a schoolteacher or social worker.

She is the eldest of eleven siblings, and her brother Akala is a grime artist. She works at the radio station RAW FM, where she is discovered by Richard Forbes at a West End club. She also works briefly with the garage act So Solid Crew.

Career

Her debut album, A Little Deeper, is released in 2002 and wins the Mercury Prize for Album of the Year. She is also a double Brit Award winner and a three-time MOBO Award winner.
