Minor Victories

Minor Victories is a London-based alternative rock group formed in 2015. The line-up includes vocalist Rachel Goswell of Slowdive, guitarist Stuart Braithwaite of Mogwai, guitarist Justin Lockey of Editors, and filmmaker James Lockey of Hand Held Cine Club. The project also involves Italian songwriter Antonio Nardi.

Formation and activity

The band is introduced publicly in July 2015 through social media, alongside news of a debut album. A teaser trailer called Film One follows a few days later and includes short clips of songs planned for the record. In a September 2015 interview, Braithwaite says the album is largely recorded and that Tony Doogan produces it.

Musical style and collaborations

Minor Victories sits within alternative rock and is associated with shoegaze, post-rock, dream pop and indie rock. The group’s first album includes collaborations with other artists, including Mark Kozelek of Sun Kil Moon. Braithwaite describes the music as drawing on the strengths of the members’ other bands rather than departing sharply from them.
