Meadowlark

Meadowlark is a duo based in the United States, made up of Kate McGill and Daniel Broadley. The group works with flute and guitar, and their music sits across emo, indie, pop and folk.

Formation and early activity

McGill first builds an audience as a solo artist on YouTube and also releases an EP under her own name before deciding to pursue music with a band. Broadley joins her, along with Carl Jones, and the group adopts the name Meadowlark. Their first single, Family Tree, follows soon afterwards.

Releases and touring

Meadowlark’s debut EP, Three Six Five, appears in May 2014. After releasing it, the group tours the UK in support of the record. Jones then leaves, and McGill and Broadley continue as a duo. Their second EP, Dual, follows in 2015.

Broadcast and recognition

The single from Dual is added to the BBC Radio 1 playlist with support from BBC Introducing. The group also reaches number one on the Hype Machine charts, with additional support from Dermot O’Leary.

Live appearances and associations

In their early period, Meadowlark supports Au Revoir Simone, Bastille, Elvis Costello, Gabrielle Aplin and Lewis Watson.
