Maz O'Connor

Maz O'Connor is an English singer and songwriter who performs traditional and original folk songs. She begins singing at Folkworks summer schools as a teenager and later appears as a guest singer with Last Orders, the group that wins the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award. After several summers of festival performances with Last Orders and three years studying for an English degree, she releases her debut album, Upon a Stranger Shore, on Demon Barber Sounds in 2012.

The album receives positive notice from Froots magazine and leads to a tour supporting The Lock In in 2013. In 2013, O'Connor and the English Folk Dance and Song Society receive funding from the BBC Performing Arts Fund, and she spends the year working with EFDSS as a creative fellow. She is one of 19 UK-based artists supported by the scheme that year. Also in 2013, she performs with the Royal Shakespeare Company as the singer in a Stratford-upon-Avon production of As You Like It, with music by Laura Marling.
