Luke Sital Singh is a British singer-songwriter from the United Kingdom. He grows up in New Malden in south-west London, a place also associated with folk musician John Martyn. He is the youngest of three brothers, and music is part of the household from an early age: his parents encourage all three sons to play instruments. Luke learns piano, saxophone, guitar and flute, and starts violin at the age of 11. After picking up his brothers’ guitar, he focuses on songwriting and guitar playing.
Background and influences
His writing draws on a wide range of songwriters, including Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Joni Mitchell, Damien Rice, Josh Ritter and The Tallest Man On Earth. These influences place him within a folk and acoustic singer-songwriter tradition, with an emphasis on lyric-driven material.
Early recognition
Luke Sital Singh gains attention through BBC Introducing and is given a performance slot at Glastonbury 2010. That early exposure establishes him as a new artist within the UK live circuit.
Debut album
He releases his debut album, The Fire Inside, in 2014.
