Lola Colt are a London-based six-piece group. The line-up consists of Gun Overbye on vocals, Matt Loft on guitar, Margin P Scott on drums, James Hurst on guitar, Kitty Arabella Austen on keys and Sinah Blohberger on bass.

Name and approach

The group’s name comes from the 1967 Spaghetti Western directed by Siro Marcellin. Their music draws on psychedelic rock, vintage film and cinematic sound, with an emphasis on atmosphere and depth. It uses unusual instruments including shahi-baaja, darbuka and harmonium, alongside guitars, bass, drums and keys.

Lyrics and sound

Gun Overbye writes lyrics as separate poems before they are brought into the band’s layered sound. Her writing often centres on hypnotism and heartache, adding a spiritual element to the group’s music, which is shaped to resemble a film noir soundtrack.
