Le Butcherettes

Le Butcherettes are a garage punk and garage rock group from Guadalajara, Mexico, active since 2007. The project centres on Teri Gender Bender and also includes Lia Simone Braswell.

Early releases and recognition

The band begins with the KISS & KILL EP, a homemade release that quickly draws media attention and builds a dedicated fan base. The following year, the independent underground music scene in Mexico recognises the group with awards for Best Punk Record and Best New Artist.

Line-up changes and collaboration

By late 2008, Teri Gender Bender, drummer Normandi and Omar Rodríguez López are working together, and the project changes direction. In January 2010, the band moves to Zapopan, Jalisco for a week to record SIN SIN SIN, produced by Rodríguez López. The sessions produce 13 songs for the debut album.

Le Butcherettes also attract the attention of Jack White in October 2009, who invites them to support The Dead Weather for two shows in Mexico. Around the same period, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs invite them to open for three dates on their Mexico tour.

Live shows and festivals

The band plays SIN SIN SIN material at Vive Latino, which is described as one of the most important festivals in Latin America, and later appears on the main stage at Corona Capital Festival. Their performances at these shows help establish their profile in Mexico.

Further personnel changes

In 2011, Teri Gender Bender moves back to the United States and parts ways with Normandi. The group then adds drummer Gabe Serbian and bassist Jonathan Hishcke. This line-up tours with Deftones and The Dillinger Escape Plan in May and June 2011 to support Sin Sin Sin, which is issued worldwide on Rodriguez Lopez Productions via Sargent House.
