Larry Graham is a US bassist and singer from Beaumont, Texas. Born in 1946, he works as a musician, songwriter and record producer, and is known for his baritone voice and bass playing.

Career

Graham plays in a style associated with funk, soul, boogie, funk rock, pop soul, R&B and smooth soul. He is best known for playing bass guitar with Sly & the Family Stone and for founding and leading Graham Central Station. His work also connects him to The French Fries and Eddie Murphy and The Psychedelic Psoul.

Playing style

He is credited with developing the slapping bass technique, which significantly broadened the sound possibilities of the instrument. Graham refers to the approach as “Thumpin’ and Pluckin’.”
