Labrinth is the stage name of Timothy Lee McKenzie, a British singer, songwriter, rapper and record producer from Hackney in the United Kingdom. He works in hip-hop, R&B and electronic-influenced pop, and is signed to Syco Music.

He first pursues music production before Simon Cowell signs him as a recording artist. That makes him the first singer Cowell signs without a talent-show background in six years. Labrinth’s early chart breakthrough comes in March 2010 with “Pass Out”, a collaboration with Tinie Tempah, which reaches number one in the UK.

Solo releases

Labrinth releases two solo albums: Electronic Earth in 2012 and Imagination & the Misfit Kid in 2019. His solo songs enter the UK Singles Chart repeatedly, and his records also appear on the Billboard Hot 100.

Collaborations and group projects

He works as a singer, songwriter and producer with a wide range of artists including Beyoncé, Kanye West, The Weeknd, Nicki Minaj, Ed Sheeran and Noah Cyrus. In 2018 he forms the supergroup LSD with Sia and Diplo, and the group releases a self-titled debut album the following year. He is also a member of The Collective.

Screen and soundtrack work

Labrinth composes the score for the HBO drama series Euphoria. That work brings two Primetime Emmy nominations, with one win. He also contributes to The Lion King live-action soundtrack, including “Spirit” with Beyoncé and Ilya Salmanzadeh, which receives Grammy, Golden Globe and Critics’ Choice nominations and wins a NAACP Image Award.
