Kwaku Asante

Kwaku Asante is a UK artist working in rnb, soul and jazz-leaning styles. He begins sharing recordings on SoundCloud in 2017 and builds a following there while developing his sound through regular snippets and self-directed study, including YouTube tutorials to improve his falsetto and baritone.

Early development and influences

Asante describes a wide set of influences. These include his mother, his grandfather, a Ghanaian executive producer who works with artists including Fela Kuti and Miriam Makeba, and singers such as Whitney Houston and Luther Vandross. He names D'Angelo as his biggest influence and calls him “the greatest of all time”.

Releases

His first EP, honeycomb, is released in 2019 and is created in about a week. Asante says the writing and recording process is intense, quick and emotive, shaped by conversations with Dan about what he is going through. His debut full-length album, Wanderlust, is released in 2022 on streaming platforms.
