Jonny One Lung is the acoustic solo name used by Jon Fawkes, best known as the lead vocalist of street punk band The Filaments. He is originally from Chelmsford in Essex.
Solo work
Fawkes performs solo acoustic material as Jonny One Lung. He says he first began singing songs alone with his guitar after being asked to play a benefit show for a friend’s legal fund following her arrest at the G8 protests in Gleneagles. He kept writing after that performance.
Other bands and projects
Alongside The Filaments, he also plays guitar and sings in acoustic folk band The 241ers, guitar and vocals in 2-Tone and reggae group Babylon Whackers, guitar in female-fronted punk band Deadline, and writes, sings and plays guitar in Dub and Reggae project Suicide Bid. He forms both The Filaments and Babylon Whackers in Chelmsford.
History
He moves to Philadelphia in 2004 and forms The 241ers there with former members of the Stockyard Stoics and MDC. He returns to the UK in May 2008, after which The 241ers disband.
Name
The name Jonny One Lung comes from a nickname given to him by Argy Bargy drummer Ray Bussey after Fawkes’s lung collapses on stage at The Army & Navy in Essex in 2000.
